College Art Gallery Editorial

The English professor took the class to an art gallery at the college, then, when we were back in class, asked all of us to write down our thoughts about the gallery. This is what I wrote.

-------------------

First of all, I could write for hours on how I fell about the "art". The people involved, and my overall feelings of the art gallery, but they would not in the least address all of it's usefulness. I feel that the views I have concerning the art gallery are very critical and do not reflect some of the beneficial aspects of the art gallery.

For example, I was disappointed in the fact that the "art" was not paintings or sculptures and things of that nature. I was appalled and horrified when I walked into the art gallery and found that these mixtures of silicon and dye were considered "art". The "art" looked as if it were made by mistake and instead of throwing this blob of gooey, hideous, ugly silicon and dye away, the artist decided that he/she might be able to imaginify something out of it. Therefore the pitiful clump of silicon was transformed into "art". Most of the "art" looks as though it was formed from the scraps of other works of art and also from the mind of a very bored, desperate, and blunt thinking mind.

As you can see, I hold a very pessimistic view of the art gallery exhibit and I do not address the beneficial views of a child or special needs adult. I could write about it from this perspective but it would not fully reflect my personal views. I believe one's views have more to do with a person's age, mood, and peers when it comes to writing about something like this. Even the environment that exhibit was in has a lot to do with a person's viewpoint. I could write more about this subject but time is limited, and I'm not able to write down all the details, and aspects of the gallery like I want to.
